Spanish Engage for Building Access Skills

Engage is now available in Spanish! Learning happens through play. Engage provides access to topic-based communication and cause-and-effect games to introduce the new-to-AAC communicator to talking and playing with their device. Explore both adult and child versions to practice head tracking and eye tracking in a fun way. This partner-navigated vocabulary offers several interactive options. Try out target practice or discover Timocco-on-Accent. You can also customize activity-based vocabulary sets that match your learner’s interest and skill level to encourage participation.

Engage was first introduced in 2019 to help new-to-AAC communicators explore their movement and learn to communicate at their own pace. Speech-language pathologists often pair Engage with ALP for AAC for teaching a new access method for AAC. It breaks down the learning process into three broad stages with eight specific phases. Use this tool to understand and encourage your learner's progression with touch, switch, head tracking, and eye tracking in AAC.

Spanish AAC Vocabularies on Empower

Spanish Engage joins several other AAC vocabularies released earlier this year for bilingual Spanish/English communicators. These vocabularies are pre-loaded with a bilingual setup allowing you to quickly switch between English and Spanish.

• LAMP Words for Life® Spanish/English features the strengths of Minspeak with a unique and consistent motor plan for each word
• Created for literate communicators, Essence® combines the simplicity of spelling with word prediction and pre-stored phrases to compose messages

Reminders on Updating Your Accent Device

Here are step-by-step instructions to help you through the software update process in one of two ways:

• Connect to Wi-Fi
• Use a USB flash drive

Before you start the update:

• Choose a time when your device is less needed or lite-tech AAC could be used as you won't be able to use the device while it’s updating
• Plug in your device with the provided battery charger
