What’s New in LAMP Words for Life

Updated Bilingual Vocabulary Files in LAMP Words for Life

Update 2025.4.1 includes changes to the setup of your bilingual vocabulary files.

• Your customized bilingual files will be separated into two files with each file listed separately (e.g., Spanish and English) in the library menu
• The two files will be linked together with a “Go to Vocabulary” button, allowing you to continue switching between languages; open either file and it will continue to work just as you’re used to 
• Your Vocabulary Builder™ lists will now be separate, based on language 
• Going forward, remember to back up both files to save your latest changes

This favorite in-app teaching tool received a fresh new look! With a full-screen interface for creating and saving lists, it’s easier than ever to focus on learning new words. Watch the video to see the changes in action! 

Consistent, Compatible App Experience for LAMP Words for Life

Do you use LAMP Words for Life on more than one device like both an iPhone® and an iPad®, or in a school setting with multiple iPads? If so, it’s important to make sure all your devices are running the same app version (2025.4.1 or higher). Keeping everything in sync lets you transfer vocabulary files seamlessly! 

Additional Changes for LAMP Words for Life

• The Transition vocabulary file was removed from the app; you can still use the same set of words by turning on Vocabulary Builder and loading the English Transition list; previously saved versions of the Transition vocabulary file will remain in the My Files section of your app
• Check out the new Gestures feature that lets you pair a gesture to a button action, such as speaking a message or opening a new vocab file; try it for situations where you want to speak an important message no matter where you are in the vocabulary or you want to switch between two languages quickly
• Use the new Take Photo button action so your communicator can quickly take a photo and save it to a button (without having to open the Edit Page menu)—it’s great for efficiently saving photos to buttons

New Vocabulary File: WordPower® 42 Mandarin

Mandarin AAC options expand again with the addition of WordPower42 in Mandarin/Simplified Chinese. With an intuitive layout and structure, this 42-location file is easy for new users to learn. It supports efficient navigation and encourages language development through core vocabulary integration. Check out the home page screenshot below.

Pronouns to follow “wash” were changed to “his” and “her” to help communicators complete verb phrases.

WordPower60 Basic English

Check out the DESCRIBE pages for FOOD and DRINKS to find the new buttons for “I’m hungry” and “I’m thirsty”.

Buttons for “am hungry” and “am thirsty” now follow “I” on FOOD and DRINKS pages to help communicators share their needs.

The verb “walk” now has corrected endings and logical next words.

Logical next words “box, bottle, bag, window” have been added to follow the verbs “open” and “close”.

The word “let’s” on TOYS, GAMES, SENSORY, and SPORTS pages now links to verbs related to that page – i.e. “Let’s… play, blow, pop, ride, swing, open the bubbles, etc.” Here’s one example.

The common expression “do > it again” is now available on the main page as well as TOYS, GAMES, SENSORY, and SPORTS pages.

“Finished” is now a next-logical word after “I” and “you” in most GROUPS when appropriate.

Object pronouns are now available after the word “found” on core page and within categories

Practice Access with Engage Assessment Tool

Explore Engage—an assessment tool designed to help evaluators and consultants with assessments related to access needs. Through cause-and-effect games, the best vocabulary file and access settings can be determined. It’s a fun way for a new-to-AAC communicator to begin talking and playing with their device.

Almagu Voice Engine Update

This update removes the previous Almagu voice limit so you can select an unlimited number of voices for each language in your app.

New: Allow Vocabulary Deletion Setting

To protect your custom vocabulary files from accidental deletion, we have added an Allow Vocabulary Deletion Setting. This setting will be set to OFF by default, preventing someone from deleting a custom file. Turn the setting to ON if you would like to delete any custom file in your app.

PRC-Saltillo websites offer Google Translate so you can access this information in your language. Simply use the drop-down menu to switch languages.
