Meet Your ASHA-Certified AAC Coach

Parts of AAC, or augmentative and alternative communication, may seem counterintuitive. Let a coach help you fine-tune what you already know and guide you to expand your skill set with activities that resonate with your family.

Amy Currey, M.Ed, CCC-SLP, a seasoned SLP with over 20 years of experience supporting AAC users and families, guides participants in the winter session. She has worked in a variety of settings and now serves on PRC-Saltillo’s Training and Implementation team. Amy’s experience working with families and AAC has focused on collaborating with caregivers to build confidence and learn strategies that encourage language development through AAC.

“Coaching gives families tools they can use every day to make communication easier and more meaningful,” noted Amy. “I hope participants leave feeling empowered and equipped with strategies that make communication easier and more meaningful with their AAC user."

Meet Your AAC Ambassador

Each AAC Group Coaching session includes a VIP guest—a PRC-Saltillo ambassador who illustrates the impact of effective communication using a customized speech-generating device and personalized access method. This session’s ambassador is Mateo Moreno. Mateo has used AAC since he was four years old. Today, he's a confident young adult eager to talk with new people and spread awareness about AAC, disability, and inclusion who has presented at several conferences. He will be giving the 2026 Prentke AAC Distinguished Lecture at ATiA on January 30, 2026. He enjoys talking with families and professionals about his experiences and you will enjoy getting to know him.
