Amanda Moreno, B.S., graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in East Texas with her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She spent three years as a resource teacher and coach in public and private school before she began her real pursuit and passion to work with students with severe disabilities. She worked as a Lifeskills teacher for five years before joining the Houston ISD Assistive Technology Team. As a member of the Assistive Technology team for 14 years, Amanda serviced students with a variety of disabilities providing Assistive Technology Evaluations for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), written production and computer access. She consulted and trained teachers, staff, school-based SLPs and parents with low to high tech communication and writing tools, as well as provided implementation and follow up support. Amanda was the main Kurzweil trainer for HISD and facilitated the first iPad pilot program and the 1:1 laptop distribution to all high school students, including all special education students. Amanda has had extensive training with Region IV in Texas and has presented at state and one national conference. She is also a member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Special Children’s Committee. She currently serves as Captain of Lil’ Rustler’s Rodeo, which is one of the several events that the committee puts on for individuals with special needs during the month-long Rodeo.
